The Raven

Imagine having a conscience like Edgar Allan Poe and in this conscience death of your love ones haunts you forever. Thought Poe’s eyes death of his loved ones is a raven. One night this raven came rapping at Poe’s window and the only thing this raven spoke of was Lenore. In Poe’s eyes Lenore was the only woman for him. Supposedly this raven was a “radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore.” This raven is in fact Lenore’s spirit.

To begin with, the raven is obviously the most important symbol in the poem. The Raven one night comes tapping Poe’s window as lovers throw rocks at each other’s windows. This raven is Lenore’s spirit coming back to communicate with Poe to get one last word. Although this is Lenore coming back in spirit Poe cannot tell for the reason that it is a raven; a dark nothingness of a bird. Therefore in Poe’s mind it could not be Lenore; then it must be a demon bird from “Nights plutonian shore.”

In conclusion the raven will be rejected for life Poe not only rejects the bird because of it looks, he rejects it because he has it set in his mind that a raven a dark nothingness of a bird and it could not fill the spirit of his loved one Lenore.
