The History of the Green Bay Packers

I remember my first Packer game; walking up to Lambeau field the size was tremendous. We walked up to our seats and it was like the world stopped spinning. There I was watching my favorite team in the world, I am a true Packer fan. True Packer fans have always stood by the Packers though there highs and lows of Packer history.
To begin with on August 11, 1919 Curly Lambeau and George Whitney dreamed up a football team that would be later called the Green Bay Packers(Cameron). Later that week there dream came true. A bunch of guys from the Green Bay meat packing company agreed to join the team, they were the Green Bay Packers (Cameron). Later that week Lee Remmel a manager at the factory alerted the media that there would be a press conference to unveil the first Green Bay Packers and there selection of players. The first Green Bay Packers went 10-1, playing teams from upper Michigan (Cameron).
The beginning of how the Packers got started was not nearly as interesting as how the teamed played in the 1960’s. This is the Lombardi era, Vince Lombardi was one of the most successful Green Bay coaches so far in the history of the Green Bay Packers. His first season in 1959, he took the team to championships in 1961, 62, 65, 66, and 67. In the nine years of Lombardi coaching the Packers had 98 wins, 30 losses and 4 ties (Packers.com).
Of course the wins were great, but the Packer experience had been even better. Right Guard Rich Moran, “finishing his eighth year with the Green Bay Packers in 1992, said, “I’m from the San Diego area and out there everyone thought it was crazy when the Chargers made it to the playoffs. The fans were excited and the city was fired up. I had to laugh because that was the kind of excitement in Green Bay for training camp” (Cameron). President Bob Harlan of the Green Bay Packers said, “ The Normal NFL when they come to Lambeau field and they don’t walk around like they do at other fields they just stand there and look at all the names in the Packer Hall of Fame. Look at all the championship seasons painted at the top of the Stadium in amazement” (Cameron).
Although the Packers experience was great it has almost gone away with all the financial troubles. Now that the Green Bay Packers have gone through many ups and downs, I don’t have enough fingers to count. At one time selling a car saved the whole organization from bankruptcy. Times have changed though and the once little organization is now a multi-million dollar organization. There has also been some remodeling to Lambeau field making the organization strong and has been running great (Cameron).
I am a true Packer fan and the Green Bay Packers are unarguably my favorite team to watch. It still amazes me of all the ups and downs of history that they still developed a great football team.
